It houses Ukraine’s oldest historical records. Nestor the Chronicler, famous Lavra monk, wrote Primary Chronicle here in the early 12th century, which is the foundational historical text for history of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia

This paper is hilarious, and also excellent science. I won't spoil it for you too much, but it's about how to pivot when your participant recruiting plans fail because the people you're reaching only want to have sex with you and you're only in the field for a week :)

Last image from tonight (short film in the morning): this brother out here with his Singer sewing machine, gifting people a custom embroidery on their jerseys and hats with the name and the date, was more artistic than anything at Burning Man and ad gorgeous as a Caravaggio. Magic! Goodnight.

Once in a while I feel the urge to look up certain people on social media to see where they're at now in life, for the very specific reason that when I did HS winter colorguard, all three of the cis boys in our group were straight, which is statistically impossible

I am in awe at ILT's ready quickness with this comment on the moment. That's centuries of bardic tradition for you. It's like "there's a word for that" with German, except with Ireland it's "we already have shit composed for that, sit tight"

Y'all, it is so important to have physicians that have a lived experience of disability. I hear so many horror stories of folks going to a doctor, and being told "you can't have ADHD if you [x]." Folks who were good in school, because they were able to hyperfocus. Folks who got missed.

My partner works at a camp for trans kids every summer, and today the campers staged a mini pride parade, which opened with the teenagers marching around the playground chanting "what do we want? TRANS! when do we want it? TRANS!"

So I guess the lesson is, if you know about the Flash because you have actually WRITTEN the comic with his name on it, go ahead and speak up because that opportunity is probably never happening again AND don’t order the enchiladas because man, they were bad.

Where fiber history meets Pride. This is a large piece (10x28') of one of the two original 30x60' pride flags, the only known surviving section of either. They were designed, hand dyed and sewn by a community of queer artists. The colors are slightly different from most rainbow flags today.

Here is my Jane Yolen story, which I suspect is a pretty common one, or at least a variation thereon. I grew up on her books. One of my earliest memories is my dad reading Commander Toad books to me at the South Bend public library. Then I grew up and got a job in comics publishing. (1/)

once upon a time I was standing in a nursing station of a unit I'd not been to before & a patient beelines up to the desk and demands to know - Am I a man or a woman? I said, "Neither." She said, "HA! Now who's crazy?!" I said, "Neither." The counselor I was with did a spit take w/ his coffee.

If we say the only true New Yorkers are people who born here we take the core heart out of this city. Immigrants who come here and have kids here and together they infuse this city with their cultures. And yeah even the girl who grew up around the corner in Jersey (🙋🏻♀️) I brought you my culture too.

The DEFINING trait of New York City is people here are from literally everywhere. “Transplants” are the cab driver from Bangladesh and the DR lady selling sidewalk empanadas and the Yemeni guy making bodega BEC and the Russian dude running a dinner theater. Without these people NYC is NOT NYC

So, question: Are you familiar with the idiom “to go to the woodshed” / “back to the woodshed”, and if so, what meaning do you know? Specifically, as a separate and distinct meaning from that of taking someone /else/ to or behind the woodshed? Fellow music folks, I’m extra curious about you, here

Today is shaping up to be a big day in the Ukraine war, and not a lot of people seem to be talking about it. Let's dive in for a very quick moment. You might be forgiven for thinking that the war is at a stalemate, as neither side has been gaining significant ground for a while. BUT: 1/7
