Digital IDs (like a driver’s license on your phone) are being used to verify identity both IRL & online—posing a growing threat to privacy. As more people are forced to cross state lines for abortion or gender-affirming care, each step could become a data point for surveillance👁️

With Cynthia Conti-Cook and Sawyeh Esmaili, I wrote for @convergencemag.com about how expanding digital ID systems threaten to increase government power to police people’s movement and access to medical care, especially as more people cross state lines to seek essential health services.

In our current political climate, we must consider using as many avenues for power-building as possible. While we cannot forget the importance of our (albeit flawed) electoral system, we must also view labor and union activism as the invaluable tool for enforcing progressive change that it is (1/2)
