I stand in solidarity with everyone participating in today's general strike. We must take every peaceful action we can to ensure that the constitutional rights of everyone on United States soil are recognized and respected.

Our current moment has many historical parallels. We should be trying to learn from all of them instead of remaining in denial about the danger we are in. We must speak out and take action at every opportunity; we can't just watch when our nation starts to repeat the mistakes of the past.

As of today, five of my prime-sponsored bills have passed the Senate, with more expected to follow soon. These bills will protect essential workers, affirm the responsibilities of utilities to property owners, support the health of volunteer firefighters, and promote local economic development.

Local food banks are a lifeline for many struggling to afford basic necessities. At a time when need is urgent, the cuts by the Trump Administration are devastating, leaving hungry families to fend for themselves.

Our current president is overstepping his constitutional authority and endangering our nation's safety and prosperity on a daily basis. It is time for Congress to use its constitutional authority to put a stop to this chaos.
