I was almost named Jake, but my mom intervened. She gave me a name she thought would be good for a Doctor, but then I went to school and studied literature, then became a travel agent.

People can say itβs utopian or dreamy but itβs a fact that you have to believe new things are possible, fundamentally, in order to make them real. You have to make the choice to believe that more than this is possible & not be resigned to this being the way things have to be because itβs not at all.

There are plenty of other terrible things about generative AI but overall my objection to it is spiritual and I just canβt really get into arguments about that. That objection doesnβt extend to every use case for it, but as far as generating anything βimaginativeβ, those are all graven images to me

Watching some clips of T2. Never noticed that in the Future War, that zoom in on John Connor at the command post reveals how stiff and robotically he's moving as he observes the battlefield. It's as if to defeat the Machines, he had to become a Machine.

RIP Robert Tinney (November 22, 1947 β February 1, 2026), the artist famous for his playful covers for Byte magazine, a hobbist magazine that ushered in the microcomputing age from the mid-70s through the 90s. I'm honored to have included his work in my own art collection.
