I don’t think I have ever publicly criticized any Presidential nominee before. But E.J. Antoni is completely unqualified to be BLS Commissioner. He is an extreme partisan and does not have any relevant expertise. He would be a break from decades of nonpartisan technocrats.

EJ Antoni has never worked in statistics collection. He is 5 years out of his PhD. He's only ever written one economics paper. His explicit, only qualifications are that he works in ultra-conservative think tanks & believes Trump's conspiracies about the BLS. Grim stuff.

With rent control in the news, it’s a good moment to recall the research of @rebeccadiamond.bsky.social and co-authors. They show that strict rent control in San Francisco reduced the availability of rental housing, eventually *raising* rental costs. doi.org/10.1257/aer....

This is very inconsistent with the evidence from top public finance papers. Their mobility elasticity is high, and is higher for state/local taxes.

Research attempting to answer the question: will EV drivers who use public charging stations respond to variable time-of-use pricing? (Spoiler: yes.)
