P1 Placement week 3 Half way through. What a brilliant, enlightening and humbling week. I’m learning so much every minute of every day with every interaction. I’m so impressed with the professionalism of all the staff and how they handle every type of incident. #UoEPGDEp

P1 Placement Week 2 I am extremely enjoying being in an environment where I can really experience being a teacher. Helping the P1’s learn, play and grow is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. And it’s only been 2 weeks! #UoEPGDEp

Placement Week 1 I am loving my primary one class and the experience of actually doing what I’ve changed everything in my life to do. Fulfilment, joy, nurture, creativity and impact. So the real work begins. #UoEPGDEp

At the weekend I dance ☘️ Irish Consulate family Day celebrating the connection between Scotland and Ireland. Always an honour to be involved in this wholesome event. Music, song, dance, language, sport, food and drinks. Plus just the wee matter of launching the St Patrick’s Ball 22.03.25 🎉

So so relevant as I sit here writing my critical analysis on Poverty as a social justice topic that needs addressed. Apparently by 2030 we will have ‘eradicated poverty’ …. So that’s good. (SDGs).

PGDE Day 23 The responsibility of a teacher to make a difference is very heavy. The @morayhouse.bsky.social mini conference showed us the emotional impact of racism on the children who experience it. We examined our own privilege, building racial literacy and experienced poetry by Tawona Sitholé.

PGDE Day 21 & 22 A welcome break from academia found in dance has helped me keep my sanity (just) as we prepare to hand in our first assignment. Missing the very helpful maths workshop (emergency vet appt) just adds to maths anxiety. Aaand it’s only Tuesday. Bluey=relevant 🙌 small win! #UoEPGDEp

Giving me shivers recalling feelings of embarrassment and of being singled out… however I completely understand and agree with the approach. Hearing the same voices is unhelpful and not reflective of the whole group, encouraging engagement is more interesting. Just be compassionate + prep us 🙏

PGDE Day 13 What. A. Blast. Experiencing the expressive arts was both in and a challenge to my comfort zone. different pedagogical approaches - most of which resonated and some that didn’t. All going to inform who I want to be as a teacher and how I want children to feel in the same situations.

As we all learn how to use Bluesky, this is useful advice, given that the algorithm doesn’t amplify heavily liked posts.

I think it's quite important we are as active as we can be here. I really think twitter is dead now and if we don't have a place to talk then we're in danger of losing some useful networks and conversations.

The most important bit of advice is to engage with others. The more people you follow & interact with, the better the experience. Don’t be afraid to jump into conversations, but do check the whole thread to see the tone & judge accordingly.

It will need, especially initially, over engagement. There’s no algorithm here, no lots of likes will boost a message. So more Reposts then perhaps we have got used to doing on the other place.

I think the Q is: how do we ensure the curriculum serves students most effectively? Which then opens up pragmatic, honest discussions around subject knowledge and specific pedagogical practice, available expertise etc.

PGDE Day 9 Critical literacies… think, analyse, guide, create. Don’t just judge and debate but act. Show you understand. Always ask why. What’s the purpose in this lesson? Hoping I can get to grips with the nuance and necessity of the critical thinking required for this job. #fridayvibe #tired
