So far today, I've made 4 calls and sent 3 emails regarding my mom's estate, and I don't even have the death certificates, yet. Living 3.5 hours away by car means I need to get stuff partially sorted before I leave. I'm lucky, because my mom was fairly organised, but not as much as she thought.

I just watched "The Great Escaper" on PBS Masterpiece. It was exactly what I needed. Mom and I had planned to watch it together, but alas. Anyway, I highly recommend it. It's just a very beautiful film about a D-Day veteran and his wife at the end of their lives.

On her own terms, surrounded by her most beloved people, my mom left this realm for the next. It was beautiful and she was in fine form, telling me to take photos of the event. She is finally relieved of the pain caused by her broken body. I am hurting so much, but she is free.

This was a beautiful last day with Mom. She was completely clear-headed, funny, and talkative. It almost felt like her hospital stay would end with her coming home. I guess, in a way, it is, but not to the condo. She's ready. The relief that her pain will soon be over, is evident. What a gift.

Man, everything sucks. So I went to the mall and bought a top for Xmas parties. It has sequins. I'll now head back to the hospital and model it for mom. One last fashion show before she goes.

Things are progressing. There is no playbook. Friday morning is the day/time. And life moves forward, differently.

My bestie is a veterinarian. She is the vet of my mom's cat, Smokey. Today, with a little feline sedative provided by my friend, I was able to bring Smokey to the hospital to see Mom. Operation SmokeyDope has been a success. This is important as Mom was so worried about Smokie in her absence.

Yesterday was brutal. She's on a palliative floor, and in an effort to lessen her pain, her med was increased, turning my intellectually vibrant mother into a zombie. Her literal nightmare. I feared she wouldn't come back, but they tweaked the dose and today she was talkative and reading the paper!

More and more, I don't think Mom is coming home. She had one hope, to die in the comfort of her home with her cat and closest loved ones at her side. But she's now too tired and fragile to fight for that to happen, nor does she want me to fight. She's tired of pain and a body's ongoing betrayal. 😞
