Caught the faintest, brief glimpse of #aurora tonight. It was barely detectable by camera for 5 minutes and wasn’t much to look at, but I’m counting it. This was my 5th sighting from Los Angeles County, at 34N latitude. Observed at 6:30 PST (2:30 UTC, Dec 11, 2025), looking NNE. 🔭 🧪

Stony Ridge Observatory, Los Angeles County, 34N latitude. #Aurora kicked into overdrive around 8:30 pm PST (4:30 UTC). It was easily naked eye visible for about 1 hr as pink glow.

One of my all-time fave images. See the bright star just to the upper right of the cluster? That's Sher 25 and it will explode in <40,000 years. You can see a ring and wisps of gas on either side of it; it's the same kind of star with the same structure that blew up to become Supernova 1987A.
