This isn’t cheerleading for the URC btw, I think it broadly sucks, but it’s absolutely bananas that a Welsh team with no money can take the bin juice of their paper thin squads to South Africa, and still get less embarrassed than a team with infinite money like Bristol do after a 3-hour coach trip.

It must be said that this is primarily a Premiership Disease. There have been 5 games in the URC this season where one team has scored 50 or more. There’s been 15 in the Prem with 2 rounds left. Even with the huge differences in budgets and the travel strain etc, the URC is more competitive.

Top 5 from Prem Top 7 from top 14 Top 6 non-SA sides from URC 18 teams. Maybe 2 challenge cup finalists or teams from their league if they already qualify Or just challenge cup winner + space for Black Lion/expansion team 20 teams 4 pools of 5 or 5 pools of 4 Or just do it with 18, 3 pools of 6
