I've known so many good, experienced people leave the nhs, & with them goes tons of wisdom & compassion. Yes new people can come in & services evolve. But you can't replace people- relationships end, there is discontinuity. Thinking in terms of human 'resources' risks devaluing human relationships.

Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free. Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

Remember when we had the whole trendy thing about being authentic? 'Authentic leaders' & so on. Well what if those people have actually been quietly sidelined, in favour of just a continued culture of 'alpha' types, people who will 'drive change' & 'deliver at pace' etc. Was it all a bit of a con?

There are many health situations where we know stress makes things worse. And then it's all to easy to get stressed about getting stressed, so it spirals. Telling people to 'not worry' is unhelpful. Instead, normalise that many people would worry, & be available, listen, hear people's concerns.

When multi-professional working goes well, it makes such a difference for quality of care. It's not just about communicating diverse views (though obvsly this is extremely useful), it also creates a sense of coherence around a person's care- it gives a person confidence & a feeling of being held.
