Today is my bf's first free day after 2 years on house arrest. His thoughts: "It's so weird walking around with two laced up boots. I've never had so much ankle support. I might take up ballet."

Still on Ssn 1 of Martha Stewart Living and she and I have had our first big disagreement. She made a whole sideboard of sugared fruit using some foraged crabapples and berries but mostly whole fresh fruit like pears and apples. These sugared fruits aren't gonna be eaten!! Absolutely not ๐ฐ Martha๐ฐ

I read the 70s Sci-Fi Art book very slowly so I could really look at every illustration. 5/5 star book. Great Xmas gift.

Have done my annual final round vote on Goodreads Choice Awards. I've read zero of the books. I choose based on my own rules. It's the silliest marketing vote of all time and stores should not be allowed to put Goodreads Choice stickers on book covers.

My aunt lived in Manhattan in the 80s, working a lot of high end retail. When she told me about the guard dogs at Macy's, I felt that was so authoritarian and fearful that it put me off any good feeling I ever had about the Thanksgiving Parade. No thank you Macy's.

My cousins left to hunt and had two deer a half hour later and when the household was notified there were gasps and sighs of oh lord and oh no. There's no more freezer space. My aunt is gonna have a time of it.

A 22yo i know strongly objected aesthetically to lotus pods in a Christmas arrangement at a store. I thought that was so funny. I cant imagine 90s decor without lotus pods, they're passe to me, but this kid was appalled.

This has brought up a question I actually don't know - when did the specific form "the fae" become so popular in English? OED has "Faerie" going back to Spenser, "fey" as "fairylike" in 1823, and there's obviously "Morgan le Fay" from French, but can't find much for "the fae" til quite recently!

If you donโt define how a leader is selected, constrained, replaced, or held to account, youโre not designing a system, youโre offering a narrative container that people can fill with whatever authority figure they already want. That's the hollowness at the heart of his entire intellectual project.

I've seen a couple deer hunt pics from my cousins this week but I just saw the cutest one with my young adult cousins laughing on a 4 wheeler with their deer. Deer hunt pics don't have to be disembodied trophy shots, they can be about life, food, and family too.

I think its just these guys are a lot fancier and better looking when reading in public. Look at these crossed legs, lil cups, & gym physiques on a boat, in an airport, at an al fresco cafe. Im covered in mud with ratty hair in a rusty truck waiting on my bf's baby mama when im reading in public.

Grateful to the Native American posters on twitter who very early in the "homesteading" craze mentioned how awful it is to use the term homesteading and say stuff like "i wanna be a homesteader." I probably, sadly, would not have put 2 and 2 together on that negative connotation on my own.

Everything that we perceive ourselves and the world to be has dependently arisen and is necessarily partial (we cannot perceive infra-red for example). Reality is much wilder and much more interesting.

The way Martha Stewart talks should be studied. There are some Mid-Atlantic pronunciations in like, a broken down lockjaw, spoken by someone who studied French in college. Bizarre and mezmerizing.
