I hate when my historical research is relevant. The GI Rights Hotline has a history going back to before its 1994 founding by a network of peace activists after the Gulf War. GI counseling has been a cornerstone of peace activism since the Vietnam War. Some of the same ppl are still doing it. 🗃️

Sorry, it sucks that you saw some cool gear on Instagram, or that the guy on the podcast talked about that sick ass kill/capture raid he went on, but wars are won by hundreds of thousands of people manning tanks and artillery.

People don't hear this enough, but SOF is vastly overemphasized. They're enablers that function to help provide advantageous conditions for line units in the same way intel does. If people want to talk about the DOD focusing on core warfighting tasks, deemphasizing SOF is something to talk about.

This is exactly it. These SOF-focused podcasts are rewriting the story of the GWOT into something that would sound totally alien to most veterans of the wars—as though SOF fought them alone—but has a lot of purchase with non-veterans who are in awe of (a particular vision of) SOF, of all ages.
