My introduction to The Keys of Marinus was the novelisation back in 1980. I adored it. Read it again and again. Partly cos it's five mini-adventures, so incredibly fast moving, but mainly cos the idea of an alien world with wildly different biomes and civilisations is pretty imagination-expanding.

Just listened to the audio drama again, partly to remind myself what was in the original and what was tweaked for the novelisation. The reworking of the ending fits the more surreal tone of the book, but I have to say I still prefer the original ending and explanation of what's happening

I tend to like to go into things knowing as little as possible, so I didn't actually realise until listening to them that the first batch of 9th Doctor/Rose Big Finish stories are all set around the Powell Estate #DoctorWho

Maybe the fact that I reject the label "leftist." The way I look at it, for as long as there is a "left wing" there has to be by definition an opposing right wing, so by self-identifying as "leftist," you're reinforcing the polarised binary political eco-system within which hateful ideology thrives.

The Ice Warriors presents a fascinating future world on the brink of environmental disaster due to scientific meddling. I just wish there was more focus on that aspect of the plot as opposed to generic "cruel" warmongering aliens who want to conquer the Earth. #DoctorWho 📚🪐

I watched the first episode of this story out of curiosity as it still exists and was surprised by some of the production decisions, namely the trippy music and zany costumes worn by the scientists. It gives the piece a surreal tone to it that the book doesn't quite capture #DoctorWho

Everyone talking about RTD, but let's not forget episode 2 of #TWBTLATS was written by Pete McTighe, who showed he had teeth as a writer with Lucky Day. I think we have him just as much to thank for it being so unsubtle with the messaging (in a good way!)
