on a related note: i think for sure we hold indie creators to a much higher political standard. sometimes you'll see people criticize queer art for being insufficiently radical, and then immediately go and play the latest pokémon game or whatever

charitably, i think this happens because corporate media feels faceless and impersonal while indie creators feel like real people you can actually reach. but it does create this weird reversal where you "can't" ask nintendo/disney/etc to have radical politics, but you *can* demand that of indie art
