This whole obsession with "too many people going to uni" is such a classic example of the parochialism of UK policymaking. No one bothers to ask why the % here is lower than in most other developed countries or whether that might be relevant.

Interesting to see the leader of East Hants DC is trying to curry favour for the bizarre reorganisation plans put forward jointly by his council and Hampshire CC. An authority that includes Southampton and Andover is not local in any sense of the word. Arrogant and ridiculous!

What an admirably clear statement from the Jewish Leadership Council, especially when all of those involved must surely have been dealing with so many other urgent challenges in safety, security and grief + shock today before having this further divisive and distracting intervention to address too.

So... you can pay your taxes and abide by the laws like all British nationals but unless you're doing something EXTRA (undefined) that those British nationals prob aren't doing and aren't expected to do, you can't stay? Nice loophole in human rights law she's found there. What a fascist asshole.

I think one of Starmer's problems on patriotism is that he's not very joyful. Patriotric pride for him translates into rule-bound authoritarianism, rather than celebration and street parties. We'll all get a govt-issued clipboard and a tally machine.

I‘m instinctively suspicious of ID cards, especially if backed-up by a giant government database. But, if it‘s called ‘Brit Card‘ & it‘s justified on anti-immigration grounds then I go from suspicious to implacably against.

Quite. Data centres have few jobs inside them while a _general_ rule of thumb would be that nowadays most data centres are near the users of the software, rather than the developers of the software Sure, there can be benefits to users from that proximity/software but direct jobs/money is elsewhere

Want to be clear that the predictable violence against the police wasn't the only problem with yesterday's march It's that 100,000 angry racists gathered in London for the biggest racist march in 50 years, and anyone not white had to steer clear The govt can't see that because they are inadequate.
