Birds and theology, sometimes at the same time. Sometimes I pretend to be a Piping Plover.
So, this morning after church I went to a nearby park for a bird hike, as has become my custom, because once I go home I'm probably not coming back out again for a while. And I'm just randomly picking trails and therefore I really can't tell you where exactly this happened.

Okay. Here’s the deal. IQ doesn’t actually mean shit. It’s like the SAT. A useless metric of how well people take tests. In a world increasingly dominated by eugenicist discourse, maybe we, ESPECIALLY we marginalized people, can stop acting like “intelligence” means a damn thing. Just be kind.

I will admit that once you’re out of work, people around you stop acting like you have an identity, that’s true. But it ain’t because work imparts that. It’s that we install that because work eats our lives and we need a way to justify it.

This came across my feed today, and it's very good. If you are a Christian who uses "Pharisee" as a synonym for "hypocrite" or otherwise treats them as the villains in the story, you need to read this. So many passages make more sense once you learn who the Pharisees really were.

People feel the need to make others "feel better" bc witnessing pain makes them uncomfortable. They feel the need to "fix it", generally out of misplaced selfishness That's a form of silencing, & it often makes the recipient feel *worse*- unheard, invalidated, more isolated You can "just" listen.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.
