A lot going on but not enough on Rodman wearing a very good contract signing suit

Don't get me wrong I am PUMPED that the Spirit worked something out to keep Trin but at the same time I just know the NWSL is going to use this contract as proof that the HIP rule is good when they could have done the same but better by raising the cap

the league tried its damnedest to mess this up, and if rodman didn't have the connection to dc and the community of supporters at audi field, she would be yet another star leaving. they'll tout this as a league-wide win, it is not, the win is the property of the women's soccer community in dc.

If you enjoy soccer coverage that goes at all deeper than #narrative, the FBref news is truly grim. There's virtually no money in the space, and the people that do have paying jobs to in further depth are not getting budgets to pay for other options (which run well into the thousands per year).

All you had to do was raise the cap. Let your ambitious teams utilize the additional space, flexibility, your less ambitious teams get pressure from supporters & media for being less ambitious. Losing Lo Flo saddens me more than I thought. A young player with spine and social awareness is desperately needed for NWSL clubs especially in current environment and especially in Utah. It is more than a CB that we have to replace. It is leadership, role model, etc etc.

So, if you’re an NWSL GM, you are not allowed to decide yourself — using all of the tools of a pro team’s front office — that a Player has a High-enough Impact to warrant a certain salary. But you *are* allowed to vote on a list that would determine that that Player has a High-enough Impact. Sure.

this is the other thing, the league asked for an extension on the grievance then used it to rush this across the line knowing the nwslpa already objected to it. they’re attempting to use the holiday to force a concession.

....the solution seems simple, and the NWSLPA has said as much. whack $1m on the cap and move on. if certain teams don't want to spend $4.5m in 2026, they won't. it seems strange to me for the NWSL to do everything in their power to prevent what seems like an obvious solution.

aside from the labor issues, media bias, and union disapproval, making player value based on media perception and marketability rather than performance is so small time and so so american (derogatory) it just tells everyone outside of this league that the nwsl isn’t a serious footballing™️ league

Need someone to verify, but I think this is the list of USWNT players who are eligible for HIP and the first method by which they qualify (several qualify through multiple categories) Players like Lily Yohannes, Jaedyn Shaw, Catarina Macario, and Alyssa Thompson wouldn't qualify!
