Update to last few posts. I emailed the university, explained that I will not censor myself based on the prohibited terms/concepts of HB261 (which—to my understanding—don’t apply to me), and asked them to clarify whether that‘s against university policy.

Not a lawyer, though I work in law. My read on the bill suggests that if your speaking engagement is not mandatory to attend, and not portrayed as you being hired by the university to provide training about one of those grounds, they shouldn't be able to prohibit you from doing it.

Let me make one think clear: I will not censor concepts such as diversity, intersectionality, and oppression now or ever. I’d rather lose work.

The Lipan Apache homeland in Texas (present day) was colonized by others *before* it was colonized by the United States. A lot of time, Native Americans who experienced this type of history are left out of the conversation for the sake of simplicity, which IMO does a big disservice to nuance.
