Sitting at post-MSQ thoughtfulness and I really think XIV is more enjoyable if you don't neglect the J in JRPG and treat it as such. It is an MMO, yes, but trying to western fantasy glasses your way through this very in-your-face JRPG experience is often why so many people get bitter at story beats.

Eliza McLamb had an apt analogy abt modern fandoms: Fans no longer treat creators as creators. Fans treat creators like stock options they’ve invested in; like they’re part owners of a creator’s work just by *being fans*, and therefore get a say in what creators make/how they act. And it sucks.

The best way to enjoy FFXIV is to not listen to anyone else's opinions and experience it for yourself.

To anyone that needs to hear this: It's okay to completely rework, change, or alter your OC whenever you want. It's okay to be excited about what's new. It's okay to make a new shard whenever a new reflection is announced. It's okay to retcon or re-write your lore whenever a new expansion drops.
