2 movies. 1 good, 1 lousy. It took a moment but I realized they both share the same strong thriller premise: An intended murder victim becomes wrongfully accused of the killing meant for her or him. The price of the twist is that the protagonist has to be rescued by the love interest in Act 3...

That carousel sequence in STRANGERS ON A TRAIN taunts me as a writer. Movies will always have the edge when it comes to suspense, but I take some comfort in remembering the times I've been made breathless while reading books by Ed McBain and Ken Follett.

Out of the 7(!) Frenzi novels, is there one I think readers have "slept" on more than others? Yeah. I'd argue Whipcord. It's got a Western vibe, but brings Frenzi back to do what he does best: fucking up motherfuckers. I love the brother and sister villains in this one. books2read.com/whipcord/

THE BIG PICTURE/ L'HOMME QUI VOULAIT VIVRE SA VIE (2010) It's mislabeled as a thriller but I guess "ambiguous existentialist drama" doesn't put asses in seats. Once I got over the bad labeling, I liked it fine. A man reinvents himself when he assumes the identity of a dead man.
