One thing that struck me about the animated film of The Hobbit was the hands. Some of the animation is pretty rough, but all the hands are very detailed and realistic. It's like the artist(s) said, "Ha! I mastered hands, which are really hard, and by golly I'm going to show that off."

Okay, the animated version of The Hobbit wasn't bad. It skipped over a lot and had weird pacing, being quite leisurely at the beginning, then getting to the end and hurrying to wrap things up. But I think it was closer to capturing the spirit of the book than the bloated live-action version was.
