Iāll be honest, the primary reason Iām gonna try reading this for the first time is that chapter near the end about The Shire getting murked

Finished Shadow Ticket. On the whole I liked the Milwaukee heavy first half more than the European second half but itās a lot of fun and also full of impending doom. The bittersweet ending is great.

Iām watching The Big Sleep for the first time in a while, which is wonderful, particularly because Bogart gets to be a silly goose. His disguise when he goes to the bookstore is so funny

The Billy Bob Thornton T Mobile ad and the Luke Wilson AT&T ads are not only both western themed but involve the respective actors walking down a road in a open landscape

Honestly too wild and all over the map to sum up in a post. Iāll just say I liked the movie the best when it was a Sierra Madre/Wages of Fear riff with Gary Cooper and Ward Bond as down and out oil men in South America. The Barbara Stanwyck noir love triangle is less successful

I love that the original Dawn of the Deaf takes place not during the initial outbreak or the post apocalyptic aftermath but during that limbo period where society is slowly breaking down

Didnāt watch a lot of movies this month so Iāve only got a top 3 first views: 7 Women (a major work, probably the best new to me film Iāve seen since Canyon Passage back in 2021) Running on Empty Ghosts of Mars

I thought this was excellentāa strange, multifaceted gangster western romance. Loved the foggy, cynical atmosphere. Canāt think of many westerns where fog is such a prominent aspect.

Man, The Crazies (1973) is wild. Itās a scathing Vietnam film of course but itās also just simply about the US military occupying an American town and citizens fighting back. I think Dawn of the Dead and Day are better but what a bold film

Nouvelle Vague (2025): when itās actually focusing on the nuts and bolts of the production it can be mildly charmingābrief amusing moments of the cast/crew hanging out on set. But the pre production and post sections are awful and overall the film feels too hollow and mechanical
