Held student voice today. A student I teach fedback that quiet work wasn't good because she felt she understood the work better when she discussed it. *I generally ask for quiet during practice, talk is a whisper to a partner about a question they need help with. How much weight do I give to this?

Key vocab! How do you deal with? We have a 'unit vocabulary' sheet that students glue into books and fill in as we go- feels clunky. As a school, we 'drill' vocab every lesson (choral response). @realgeoffbarton.bsky.social Anything out there on how to ensure conversations students are having remain on task? I think this is the biggest challenge for our school in implementing. Very quickly chatter spreads and becomes difficult to track who is and isn't sticking to the task.

#mathstoday revised rounding with yr 10. Asked what 2 7/9 is to nearest integer. No one could tell me!

The biggest short-term teaching problem is ATTENTION. Students who aren't paying attention can't learn. The biggest long-term problem is MEMORY. You can smash out the best lesson ever, but if you don't have a long term memory strategy you're wasting your breath.
