More evidence of rapid impact! This child's addition test score went from 30 to 52/52 after just 6 weeks of playing BrickUp for 30 minutes a week - that's an increase of 73.3%! His teacher says "It must be the game that's made the difference"

Products and factors, and all the relationships and connections between them. That's the beauty and genius of Stick and Split. Rich, connected multiplicative reasoning that ALL children can access. Schools are amazed by what they see their children doing - you could be too π

This week it's all about Stick and Split π We love the levels that start with random numbers, they encourage such flexible thinking about multiplicative relationships. What can you see here that you would call fluency?

I love watching these playbacks because you really can physically see that fluency develop over the course of the level. Eg, notice how the player initially tries 2+3=6, but once this has been rejected, they play two instances of 2+3=5 without a pause.
add a skeleton here at some point

What's going on here? What does this learner know about numbers? Where are they making mathematical decisions? Where could they be more fluent? What would you suggest to this student? π

Specialists in mental wellbeing have a lot to say about the detrimental relationship between the word 'should' and motivation. Perhaps there's a healthier way to frame what we 'should' do in maths? Read our latest blog here π

So lovely watching children play our games. Two things stand out: 1) The huge amount of mathematical though in this 70s clip 2) Sound on to hear the quiet concentration of the rest of the class doing the same,

So great to be in school today - felt timely to be working with a class on their fluency in addition and subtraction given the curriculum review recommendations! They were all so engaged and confident in their talk, reasoning and recall of number facts π

What we believe of ourselves matters - in mathematics these ideas start to form very early. They're linked to what we are taught 'maths' is, and our role models' behaviour. What were your early experiences of maths? Are they still affecting you today?

This child playing Stick and Split is 5 years old. We can build very confident and capable mathematicians from astonishingly young ages if we give them the right kind of play. They are better at maths than we think.

What does it really mean to βlearnβ mathematics? Performance today doesnβt always mean remembering tomorrow. In Part 2 of this 3-part series, we explore generative learning - why doing > receiving, and how we can reshape mathematical practice.
