It seems the BBC wanted a spectacle. They could have cut every slur. That would have preserved Davidson's dignity and kept people safe from hearing a deeply triggering word. The BBC made a choice not to do so.

This whole BAFTA mess is making me realise how many people don't continue to consider the disabled to be actually human once we become inconvenient or uncomfortable. Even some internet personalities I quite liked have said some thoughtlessly dehumanising things in response.

I started downgrading which shelves my (now embarrassingly near complete collection of) Gaiman books were on after the Tortoise podcast. Now having read these less forgiving presentations of the allegations it may be time to banish the books to the other room entirely.

As a child a documentary about this site deeply upset my pro-science brain as I was very certain the documentary was wrong but also that documentaries were a source of correct and valid information. Enough that I carried the frustration into middle age.
