May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Sooooo….In May, Trump administration announced it will stop paying out $1B in federal grants that US school districts have been using to hire mental health professionals, including counselors and social workers. Total Disconnect! Shameful.

Indiana Budget: Public sch ⬆️ by 3.3% in ‘26 & 1.6% in ‘27, which includes an existing $160M leaders just moved. Charters receive a 4.8% ⬆️ in ‘26 & 3.7% ⬆️ in ‘27. Virtual will ⬆️ by 14.2% in ‘26 & 9% in ‘27. Private Sch vouchers will ⬆️ by 10.1% in ‘26 & 23.4% in ‘27.

Reminder to Hoosier families: Indiana’s relentless attack on PreK, K-12, and higher education is a GOP choice. There are other states prioritizing kids! Kids. First. Always.

As Indiana continues to reduce funding for traditional public schools, struggle to fund 4 different systems of (schools’) choice, discuss voluntary public district consolidation, and start forced consolidation, 5 more charters are seeking approval to open. Bad policy!

Unbelievable. The GOP confirmed a Sec of Education who refers to AI as A1 (steak sauce). The GOP confirmed and defends a Sec of Defense who sends US classified, sensitive detailed military plans to his family and a journalist using non-secure channels. We deserve better.

A pro-measles, pro-price increase, pro-layoff regime about to increase taxes on working families and demand we call it freedom.

Twenty yrs of GOP control-this is Indiana. The continuing story of underfunding public schs… The current proposed GOP state budget: 25K voucher students (families in top 3% of income earners) will receive $330M add’l $. Comparatively, 960K students in trad. public schs will receive only $190M.

When Hoosiers hear the education budget may increase by .5-2%, it is important to know those increases are not necessarily reflected in distribution to schools. The funding formula will be better for some and disastrous for many. We will see…

Project 2025 in action… IN HB 1684 makes getting a divorce more difficult. Bill: those seeking divorce w/kids would have to present a WITNESS to testify as to the "irretrievable breakdown of the marriage" OR the person seeking the divorce must "show cause" as to why the divorce should be granted.

The Indiana GOP is cutting Medicaid services due to a lack of sustainable funding. At the same time, the GOP spent over 2B on private school vouchers and is projected to allocate an additional 1B to sustain and grow the program.

Indiana GOP legislators cannot help themselves. Each legislative session they introduce and/or pass National education bills that make zero sense, have a negative impact on learning, and waste money- just to check a box for ALEC. And…most of them know it. 😡

If Indiana spent the same share of it's GDP on K-12 education in 2024 as we did in 2010, we'd spend an addition $2.99 Billion (roughly $2,900 more per student).
