Yeah, sometimes no one’s at the shop so you call a number and they give you the code to enter and let yourself in. You go behind the counter, get your donuts and ring yourself up, then let yourself out. It’s surreal.

The Decline in Police Traffic Stops Is Killing People
Adding more speed cameras would probably reduce the death toll, but they remain unpopular in the US. Something’s got to give.

You may have heard about baby bald eagles being born in Chicago for the first known time in a century. Here are my views of the nest in Park 597, as seen from Indian Ridge Marsh (roughly 700 feet away), shot with an 800 mm lens. Chicago Park District urges people to keep 600 feet away from the nest.

If you’re trying to ride the B Line or 72 between Snelling and Dale, it’s still on Selby today. Go to your normal stop. Detour starts 5/11, but the Transit app and Google Maps show it on Marshall today - ignore that!

I am extremely troubled by the amount of standby pay issued to MPD officers during Operation Metro Surge. MPD data shows some officers were paid nearly 24 hours per day for 32 days straight, while dozens were paid 8-12 extra hours each day while we stood out in the cold protecting our neighbors. 1/

the fundamental job of journalism is to report facts & uphold public trust, which is rapidly eroding. brushing off the careless use of AI to spread misinformation shows why that is. this kind of conduct needs to be treated as a serious violation & called out as absolutely unacceptable.

We've reached the point where one party has so obliterated the rule of law that everyone else continuing to abide by it will only hasten the end of our democracy. That's a recipe for chaos and violence. It's terrifying, and I don't know what we do about it.

Democrats get a gerrymander in Virginia approved by a referendum, and it falls. Republicans in other states manage to gut the Voting Rights Act to enact partisan gerrymanders with no signoff from voters, and they stand. The game really does feel rigged, doesn't it?

So people are stuck in an impossible position. If you refuse to comply with your annual ICE meetings, or ad hoc ones they schedule, that's grounds to revoke your release. But if you show up, there's a risk you'll be detained anyway. It's horrible. All I can suggest is to be prepared.
