I really hope this doesn't become a AAS tradition for me. Last year one of my first tasks after getting home was updating my in-laws on our risk from the fires in LA, this year looks like it'll be getting home to check with them how much risk they're at in Victoria from those fires

When you think about it, it's a bit backwards that when i walked through the lobby of the #AAS247 conference hotel I'm in, it was weird that there was a wizard, but it got a lot less weird walking into the convention center and passing Mario kart racers and a Sim (curious what else is going on now)

I really want to figure out why traveling to conferences in the last couple years (basically post-COVID) feel like I've wrapped my sleep cycle around a tree. Especially as both regular travel and non-travel conferences seem fine.

The thing that I didn't realize with workshops, and am greatly noticing with #AAS247, is that running a workshop has meant I've gone from being tired of AAS by like, Wednesday... to feeling done before the opening reception even happens. But a successful workshop, at least.

As someone that deals with stars and exoplanets, that the meeting rooms at #AAS247 are labeled on the wall with upper and lower case simultaneously (e.g. 121 b and 121 B) is irrationally distressing.

I enjoy the mild airport comedy as one flight crew trying to get somewhere shows up while the gate agents are waiting for the actual flight crew to show up to start boarding. (Clearly a pain for people working, but it all got resolved and no one got heated)

Watching this Sugar Bowl ceremony and seeing that trophy, I can accept that we're calling that a bowl even though it is closer to a goblet or something, but I don't think there's any sugar in it at all.
