NHS provider trusts – making up over three-quarters of NHS day-to-day expenditure – reported a £1.2 billion overspend last year, amounting to 0.9% of income in 2023/24. Or to put it another way 10% of the entire GP budget for the year who are not allowed to overspend at all!

Nothing here surprising... though no less important. Pts/GP is a useful metric to help folk bend their head around the problem. However, if it was the same everywhere that would remain problematic - e.g. deprived communities need *more* GPs per head. They get fewer. #GPSky

If the money currently spent on the ARRS budget was restored to core GP funding—trusting practices to use it wisely—we could then invest in more doctors, which is what patients want, and let the market decide which of the other roles have a place in general practice. doi.org/10.1136/bmj....
