Excited for this one... a pricey microlot but I couldn't resist bringing it in, so we're selling it at close to break-even. ☕

Going to a screening of a documentary about John C. Lilly and it already feels past my bedtime so I made a countertop blend of our Swiss Water Guatemala decaf with a bit of our latest Kenya. The result is absurdly delicious and hopefully will keep me awake.

I recently bought a Yes Plz subscription for my brother-in-law's birthday. I'm sad I can't try the coffee as I don't live in the States anymore, but he is very happy with his gift. Buy Tony's coffee imo.

Yes Plz has entirely ruined my wife and I for coffee shops. There’s literally nowhere that makes coffee as good as we do at home, and we don’t even try that hard. Coffee nerds would be smart to get on this deal when it drops

Good gift alert! We've been getting The Mix from Yes Plz for a few years. The beans are always great, but never in the exact same way. And I love that each delivery comes with a little essay from

Feels like spitting into a hurricane but I think I'm going to drop a video with a very generous discount code onto social media in the next day or two and see if I can lure some folks into the coffee fold for Black Friday.

pourover of a blend of Guatemala, Mexico, Ethiopia, and Colombia (YES PLZ The Mix 365 "Front Row Seat"). A four coffee blend would be heresy or chaos to a lot of roasters, but this is really balanced. Milk chocolate, pear, marzipan, praline, satsuma. Clean. Round. Impressive long finish.

Currently drinking a delicious washed Honduras from grower/agronomist Katia Duke. The kind of balance I love from the best Central America coffees—round, mellow, with delicately layered vibrance. Stroopwaffle. Melon. Hint of baking spice. a few bags left at:

Truly I suck at marketing but the coffees we’re shipping out tomorrow are fantastic and I took advantage of some nice lighting in the roastery to try and say so.

Agreed—a challenging customer service environment plus a lot of small technical details. Lots of folks can't cut it. (Also, as a longtime reader / fan, YES PLZ stands ready to troubleshoot or connect with resources if you want to level up any part of your home coffee shtick.)

I keep adding to my notes for a video about the future of baristas in the modern coffeebar... I feel strongly that the best coffeebar experiences, for me (on both sides of the counter), have been when the person pulling the shots is the first point of contact/taking the drink orders.

already confused by the time change I'm drinking coffee later in the day than I should. countertop blend of a washed Guatemala sample and a washed heirloom Ethiopia. milk chocolate with a nice Tang citrus note, green grape, date sugar. next release of The Mix will be in this vein.

drinking a sample of a washed Ethiopia. Grind might've been too fine, pour-over went long leading to a slightly astringent finish hurting some of the flavor articulation. A small splash of water to dilute the brew opens it back up again revealing some berry, lime, green tea, excellent florals.

Civet coffee isn't that good, wouldn't score above mid-tier specialty coffee in a blind cupping, and the commercial production and marketing of it is full of ethical lapses and bullshit mythology. This is just more science-washing of bogus claims. full paper here

Starting my day off wrong with the latest lengthy junk science paper attempting to explain the dubious special properties of civet poop coffee. ☕ Bottom line: the critters are better at selecting only ripe cherry and any controlled depulping/fermentation (even a civet's gut) can change flavor.
