Nothing current can beat the classic sensation of looking at toys in old Sears and JC Penny catalogs. The excitement of making out your Christmas and birthday list to these things was fun, pre-internet. And I still remember the smell of the pages.

Halloween is approaching

A splendid Mike Wieringo art tutorial from June 1997’s Wizard magazine, focusing entirely on approaches to depicting Spider-Man and Peter Parker.

Today is the birthday of cartoonist Walt Kelly (Aug. 25, 1913-Oct. 18, 1973), creator of the newspaper comic strip Pogo.

Personally, nothing beats the classic embossed metal lunchboxes/thermoses with illustrated art on all sides, but the plastic ones hold some nostalgia too. I had Star Wars, Super Friends, and Marvel Super Heroes.

Happy belated birthday to me!

While grocery shopping today I found these. I don’t normally go in for this type of thing but I couldn’t resist, I love the designs. I also almost bought Superman/Krypto Milk Bones for our dogs, but resisted since they weren’t any different from normal ones, just the box was different.

That time Superman outwits Brainiac and he gets so flustered that he decides to just take himself out, and Lex with him. Then of course despite their hatred of Superman, their ghosts still have the courtesy to reassure him that they’re better off dead. Hey James Gunn, we need this in the sequel.

Just finished this in IMAX. WOW. Absolutely terrific: fun, uplifting, positive, full of great cameos, Easter eggs, action scenes (things you’ve never seen) and messages, and heavily/unashamedly influenced in tone and style by the comics and animated series. Lots of fun surprises too. Will see again.

Since it’s out on Netflix now I can show the 2 T Shirt designs I did for the Cast and Crew of “The Electric State” movie, used as gifts for production wrap. They’re both for different film units. The second didn’t want any characters from the film, just made up robots with an 80’s “Breakin’” vibe.
