Solidarity! University of Aberdeen colleagues have already lost so much. University management should look at other ways to cut costs or grow income. The University of Dundee management should be aware of staff cuts leading to a never ending cycle of continuing cuts every year.

Staff at Truro and Penwith College will strike on Monday 23 February. Management imposed a 2% pay award, half the level recommended by the AoC - thats a real-terms pay cut. Fair pay. Manageable workloads. Proper time for students.

Never forget that our interim Principal wrote a “recovery plan” that called for the loss of 390 more jobs. And that despite that plan be rejected by the SFC, he went to the Scottish Parliament last October to say his plans remain unchanged.

The current situation at the University of Dundee is that we are not getting our annual pay increase and that promotion processes are paused. At the same time the uni is refusing to rule out compulsory redundancies, it is advertising over 20 new senior management jobs for academic staff.

With Court agendas missing, minutes published late and papers non-existent, it’s our view that the important governance meetings at the University of Dundee should be live streamed and recorded, for openness and transparency.

The Governing Body of London Met University meets today to decide the fate of one fifth of the permanent teaching staff (120 jobs). The Governors could choose to say No to the VC's Plan. These cuts are expected to devastate a wide range of departments including art, architecture and business.

Parts of University of Dundee’s action plan in response to the Gillies report are not being implemented. There are no available Court agendas for the last 8 Court meetings (5 under the new chair), and no approved minutes available for 7 of these meetings. Court is not transparent. Why?

Today we strike to ask the University of Dundee to rule out compulsory redundancies. Join us at the front of the Tower until 10am and then at Holyrood for our rally to defend Scottish Higher Education sector from 12:30-13:30.

We are also hosting a rally outside of the Holyrood building in Edinburgh tomorrow from 12:30-1:30pm. If you’re in Edinburgh, come and join us, in better weather ☀️ The rally will focus on our and other campus unions fight against job cuts in the Scottish HE sector.
