It's been really nice to change up my commute this week and travel by e-bus. Tomorrow, I think it'll be fun to trip-chain and go multimodal. School drop off by bike and then ride to the train station. The hardest part will be picking music for the kids.

Heck yes, I caught the electric bus going both ways today!

First day of free transit in Victoria so I chose to take the bus and do some reading. So did a lot of other people. We're almost at standing room!

I went to a belated Galentine's night that included a blind book swap and shared plates. I got there by bicycle because a) fuel crisis and b) no transit home after 9pm on a weekend. 😡 My backpack held the book, a dozen scones, jam, whipped cream, + 2 cans of coke. It IS possible without a car.

There’s at least 60,000 jobs in Laverton/Truganina industrial area. It’s barely served by PT. Folks with a 15 min drive to work would face a 75+ min PT journey. This is a scenario repeated over and over across Melbourne’s suburban industrial areas. Free PT won’t get these folks out of cars.

Finally had 20 minutes to tinker, so I hooked up the left brake lever, cable, housing and noodle for the rear brakes. I had to file down where someone cut through the cable routers on the frame and then zip tie the new cable to the shifter cable. Chain goes on next & grips are on order at the LBS!

The other fun thing about detouring for errands is you get to try out new routes. This one was just opened in December and I've only had a couple of occasions to enjoy it.

I took a detour this morning to return library books. It only added a few minutes, but there was a risk of taking longer when I spotted my state MP sitting on a bench. I love that commuting by bike enables me to interact with people around me (or not, lol) and it makes the drop box a drive-thru!

Look at the difference!! Most of this rust is just dirt! It came off easily with a bit of drivetrain cleaner. I had time to tackle the rear hub and cassette on my lunch break today. Really want to see if I can save the chain.

Finally found time to work on the abandoned bike this morning. The bearings all feel great, there's VERY minimal surface rust, and stuck-on grime in all the expected places. It cleans up really well with little effort. This has been living in a shed for years, not outside. Look at it shine!

Came in before sunrise this morning and I got to see how bright the greenwash lighting is in the Veloway. The whole corridor is very well lit and there are plenty of other people out and about.

I love this view, and I can't see it from inside a bus or car.
