It feels like academic publishing is going in two directions. In the first are (diamond / platinum / real) open access journals that are authored, reviewed, and edited by humans. In the second are for-profit journals infected with AI slop throughout. Choose which ecology you want to live in.

There is something that you never really learn until you are pretty deep in the guts of the academic machine. The things you love, that you go into academia puruse, end up being replaced by various administrative tasks and ongoing attempts to keep the ship afloat...

This post has me thinking about a paradoxical moral-praxis dynamic in my "Writing with Robots" seminar this semester which would inform attempts to develop such policies—my sample size is obviously limited but I suspect this paradox is widespread among undergrad & grad students—& many faculty tbh+

This argument—that everything is carcinizing into TV—rings true to me. I really agree with the observation that social media is TV now. There are a few content creators who create content and the rest of us are consumers. Unlike even 5-10 years ago, it's not so much about friends sharing anymore.

The new open access philosophy journals have one feature in common: excellent logos. Unlike Wiley and Springer journals, they're not just the name in truly shit typefaces. Free & Equal has a nice accent and decent typeface. Experimental Philosophy has a ligature that is a bit on the nose but cute.
