Took a detour to add some frustum culling, there was literally no occlusion checking at all before. Just culling out offscreen debris and enemy animation blending has made enough of a difference for my aging machine to still manage 144Hz for all the important encounters. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev

Ctesiphon is partly a forever-home for a handful of maps I made in Quake 3 and UT2004 many years ago. This here is my high-school masterpiece, the Fortress of Baal. I'm blocking out its new incarnation as a casino, making the final map of the game before the final boss fight on the roof. #gamedev

Did a refactor of the audio system today and added a proper association between sound clips and source entities such that staggering, killing, or gibbing an enemy can interrupt sound effects they've spawned. #gamedev #indiedev

I totally didn't design around playing this with a controller, so as a compromise there's an option for aim-assist when using one. Just done by sending out some detection rays like in classic Doom. #gamedev #indiedev

Lots of effort going into polishing off gamepad support. To allow using gamepad and mouse, prompts in game won't switch from keyboard to gamepad until you press a button so that can look a bit slow compared to menus. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev

I got a request a while ago in an itch comment to for texture filtering. Now, trilinear min-filtering with 16x AF is on all the time, but if you want everything to look all smoothed out and blurry up close, I've added the option for it. #gamedev #indiedev

I think that as an indie game dev without a large publisher, your target audience is not gamers in general, it is sickos. It's hardcore sickos that will be diving the depths of your genre and finding your game, and it is sickos who will be spreading it. Please the passionate, not the masses.

This is really overdue. I have mouse acceleration turned off on my dev machine so while I implemented raw input with XI2 on Linux years ago, I've now finally done it with WM_INPUT for Windows, exposed the option to toggle it, and enabled it by default. #gamedev #indiedev

I'm working on a project right now that loads Half-Life BSP files for levels and I had to do some things to fix up the generated triangle data at load time, but it works. It's really neat to see other people using the Quake BSP formats for their own games & engines

Found this in the EricW's docs just last night. This whole time I thought Quake lighting had a range of 0..1 while it was starting with Quake 3 they increased it to 0..4. Well it's been 0..2 the whole time and now I have to tweak lighting across the entire game. 😭
