Nantes in 2015 (first photo) was where I first thought #TramsAndGrass was (or should be) a thing. But, now being in Strasbourg for the first time since 2005, I realise that it was here, then, that I first realised trams running over grass even existed. Two decades on, and it still looks great.

It was already hot enough in Birmingham today (above 30) without New Street station casting random heat-rays on hapless folk below. I walked through this spot a minute before, and it felt like being under one of those outdoor pub table heaters.

Every time I face the prospect of taking a train journey by CrossCountry at anything like a peak period (0630-1030 or 1600-2000) my heart sinks, as the train seems always to be horribly overcrowded. It’s happened again. Do you know why? Is it just a simple lack of carriages, or a longer story?

I was in Bath today, for the first time in over a decade. I recall traffic making large parts of the centre very unfriendly. That’s now been rectified by managing traffic out, and without spending £££ on public realm treatments. Should be a positive lesson for many other towns & cities.

Bad design of public infrastructure imposes costs on individual disabled people which the government needs (and usually fails to fully) compensate them for with PIP. Improving that infrastructure reduces costs for disabled people but also benefits the whole of society.
