Spiders (the game developers) shutting down is such sad news. As a studio, they're pretty much a peak example of what the backbone of a healthy industry should look like. Mid-budget, not afraid to take big creative swings, doesn't always hit the mark but always trying. That SHOULD be sustainable.

Maybe growing up with those *and* photorealistic high end AAA everywhere, easy to access, plays a role. You probably won't crave realitic stuff as much if you haven't been restricted to 3-polygon-per-character for years. In any case good news for us artists. More art direction, less rEaLIsms!

I keep seeing authors getting duped by AI users pretending to be artists (and then sadly realising it when everyone calls their book AI slop). These grifters are everywhere and I don't have a solution, but I have a few pointers:

AI is a tool of fascism. Full stop. It was created for the specific purpose of stealing the work of others, demoralizing artists, and eliminating middle class jobs to push creators out of art and into the lowest paying work. When you endorse AI slop, that’s what you’re endorsing.
