I didn't play a lot of games this year but we did finally play Disco Elysium, which I can honestly say the hype is true, the hype is real, this game fucks. I am simply astounded on every level. Also I didn't expect it to be so incredibly funny?? Maybe the most well written game I've ever played

In "Fish: a tap essay", Robin Sloan writes about how one way to show love on the internet, as opposed to just “liking,” is by revisiting things. I just returned to one of my fav spots in DC: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Saw egrets, herons, osprey, and many lotuses. 🪷

James Gunn seems to have learned a lesson from the Raimi Spider-Man movies: show regular people reacting to disaster and the emotions of the danger hit so much harder. I keep thinking about that woman holding her turtle.

It's frustrating that ANC meetings are so long, and the minutes are approved months later. However, new AI tools make it much easier to stay on top of what's happening in these meetings. I took the YouTube transcript and meeting agenda and created a summary:

There's something about the idea of two billionaires sniping at each other from, as the NYT put it, "their own social media platforms" -- that is, the platforms they each own -- that encapsulates something deeply deeply off about the current era

Today’s the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday— a pivotal point in the Selma movement for Black Americans’ freedom rights, directly resulting in the necessary pressure for passage of the Voting Rights Act, crippled by SCOTUS in 2013. There’s a straight line from that decision to today’s hell. 1/x

I'm keeping my subscription to the Washington Post The reporting and writing is really good, and it's essentially my hometown paper here in DC. It's not that unusual for a paper's opinion section to be trash (like the WSJ) and the rest of it to be great. This article, for example, is awesome:
