Was informed about this game called "Roll Away" (Kula World in the PAL regions), a PS1 puzzle-platformer where you play as a beach ball. It looks amazing.

i think it's not even an opinion - videogames are a composite art, like cinema before them. They include every single form of art that has come before them (narration, architecture, composition, etc... and cinema!) just like cinema did in its time. So they are art and can be nothing else.

The entire game was catching and breeding fish, but the real feature was, you could *very realistically animate* any fish you caught/bred, and they would swim around a tank you could design! ...Unfortunately, you were doing that on a 386/486.
