Apple's transcriber APIs are coming along, but if you need accurate transcription right now, I've been happily using Speechmatics' API for several years and recommend it. It returns accurate text transcripts and even detailed word-by-word timing in JSON format. It's not free, but it's very good.

Mine is: I mistakenly deleted a DNS record for a load balancer that handles traffic for all of our internal apps, including the app that’s used to manage DNS records. Caused about 15 minutes of downtime for nearly every app until the record could be manually fixed by someone with additional access 🤦‍♂️

I’m only part way through it, but “Apple in China” is *such* a good read! I can’t put this book down.

My fiber ISP offers fantastic speeds, but has occasional outages that last many hours. I just added a cheap, lower-speed backup to a local WISP. They use Ubiquiti gear to talk to antennas on a nearby ridge, with (another ISP's) fiber backhaul. My Ubiquiti CGM now does dual WAN with auto failover 🤩

In the last several years, school districts have been on a mission to “incorporate technology”, but it has only made homework super chaotic. Work is split between paper and PDFs, there’s 17 different systems, multiple logins, and the assignments get less scrutiny than ever. It all feels so slapdash.

I feel like not enough people that use HLS to deliver pre-recorded video are aware that you don’t *have* to segment the video into many chunks. Any webserver that offers Range headers can serve a single .ts file, seeking as needed. It’s been supported since like iOS 5 and greatly simplifies things.
