Quick tip to those preparing for kindergarten: Once your kiddo has learned to tie their own shoes, let them practice tying yours on your foot. Teach them to ask, ‘Do you want me to tie your shoe?’ Kids love to be useful/ easy way to meet classmates/ saves a smidgen of the teacher’s sanity

I don't have any patience for the "but we're poor" argument for bands using AI for posters and publicity. Try to think back to roughly 3 years ago when you somehow coped without it.

My main worry is that we’re banning social media for kids but not AI. So you can’t speak to real people online anymore, kids, but you sure can talk to your fake artificial friend who weirdly loves to talk about taking your own life!

This applies even if your kiddo DOESN’T have internet access. Every kid knows some other kid whose big brother/babysitter/parent leaves devices unlocked. 5th graders swap ways to evade monitoring. If your answer is “no more play dates with Johnny” the lesson they take away is don’t tell you.

I see a lot of bookish news on my feed, but I ignore pretty much all of it except this: only 31% of US 4th-graders read at grade level. Format, delivery system, how books get monetized will not matter if people cannot or do not read. Support every system that gets books to kids.
