Great to see the North East Mayor commit to trialling a Health in Pregnancy Grant and Baby Boxes. First Steps, my report for @thefabians.bsky.social, recommended implementing both nationally. Let's hope where the North East leads, the forthcoming Child Poverty Strategy follows.

The best way to know if you actually support a policy (whatever your questions about motivation, implementation etc) is to ask if you'd support it if the Party you don't vote for were the ones doing it. On this I absolutely would - even if I thought their reasons were narrow partisan advantage.

Votes at 16 won't help Labour electorally all that much. It's like when the party changes the leadership rules and, without fail, it has the opposite effect than that intended. I think votes at 16 is the right thing to do. No one should decide on this based on electoral maths. But many will.
