The problem isn’t one mad man. It’s a system so completely reliant on a country that voted for that madman and that country’s inability to curtail him.

It’s good that Trump backed down but if European governments take that as an excuse to go back to sleep until the next time the lynchpin of the western alliance has a snit, I do not believe I will be able to cope.

Keir Starmer often takes 2-3 days to issue very mild criticism of US actions. This is both direct and issued fast. I think there is a serious risk that the US miscalculated quite what a big deal the Greenland thing is to Europe (and in Europe).
