The only thing I will say: I could not do what TOs do for Splatoon. Volunteering your own time with the risk of being harassed and/or discriminated against is mind boggling to me. I don’t know how they do it but when they do leave, as we have seen many great people leave, I understand why.

TOs and staff deserve the upmost respect. They put in so much of their free time for a scene that is incredibly unappreciative. I try, when I can, to thank TOs for their effort both online and on LAN. They don’t get it enough. Listen and I mean really LISTEN to TOs today and always.

A word of advice on Splat Safety. I believe it is really important to take a step back and understand what is the scope and goal of the org. 🧵 1/5

SSC is about enforcing safety within the Splatoon community by doing investigative work and providing banlists. It is not about making people FEEL safe, it is about making the community safe. I understand this may sound weird, and I'm sure they do try to make this happen, however — 🧵 2/5

Your feelings are your own and not a single person can control or dictate them. Your sense of safety is constructed through your own experiences. The only thing SSC can really do is prevent problematic individual from participating in events. They are not social workers or therapists. 🧵 3/5

We must try as a community to make sure people can feel safe. But the task can never be on any single person or org. While criticism is fair, I believe accusations made against Splat Safety under the premise that they make members of community feel unsafe are dangerous. 🧵 4/5
