So the Artemis II crew is transferring water into clean urine storage bags (with 2 people using straw & syringe) cause there’s a possible problem with a valve on the water tanks. Just in case the valve stops working. There’s an “Abbott & Costello go to the Moon” joke there, but I wouldn’t tell it.

If you watched the live NASA channel and all the NASA programming you’ve gotta give it up to some of the best science commentators in the business. NASA is absolutely masterful at this and it’s important to note this is a priority for them. Not many other govt orgs do this level of public education.

540 miles above the Earth now. Perigee raise will increase their orbit to the point they'll need to connect to the Deep Space Network for comms.

Tail to sun position now, solar cell rings beginning their extension.

They'll next modify the connections on the batteries, cross tying them to even the load. At some point, they'll deploy solar cell array wings to generate electric power. Subsequently, they'll alter their orbit, raising their perigee.

Funny that I originally considered working for NASA, way back when. But it turned out they were outsourcing most of the cool stuff at the time. So I went into R&D elsewhere instead.

Watching this launch, one thing I’ll say… I got to be at STS 135, the final space shuttle launch, and it was easily one of the most moving experiences of my life. The things humans can do when they all work together are actually amazing.

Throttling down. 650+ miles downrange, 15000+ miles per hour, MECO Main Engine Cut Off, Core stage separated. Now, in orbit. 8 minutes after launch.

10 9 9 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Launch Boosters ignited. They're off. Television coverage is 3 minutes behind real time.

Can't stop the launch now without having to recharge the batteries. No more hold times.

APU start, to power the hydraulic pumps to steer the gimballed rocket engines. Steering test shortly. Test done. Engines moved. Ground power disconnect. Batteries engaged.

Vent valves closing on the liquid hydrogen tanks first, liquid oxygen shortly, which will allow the boiling liquids to pressurize the tanks for launch in 6 minutes.

6:35 & 12 seconds T0 launch time.

Terminal countdown. T minus 10 minutes.
