maybe i’m naive but i think it’s kinda doomerism to always be saying this is gonna take decades to undo or you’ll be old or dead when it ends. first it doesn’t matter, plant trees you won’t live to sit in the shade of. second great change is capable of happening very quickly

A former career DOJ guy told me a few weeks ago that prior to Trump, the FBI was the varsity team, DHI and ICE were junior varsity, and Border Patrol were like a drunken office softball team. And under Trump, the drunk softball guys are now in charge.

I think we have to basically consider "AI is inevitably going to result in superintelligence" to be a religious belief at this point. People are very literally expecting salvation

Why do people believe false things about the priorities, governing record, and ongoing agenda of the Democratic Party? In part because even nominal Democrats are happy to tell destructive lies about it in public.

You cannot prove to these people that you’re impartial or rigorous because they *don’t care*. They hate you, personally. They hate that their kids become your students and listen to you. They hate that people laugh at them and respect what you have to say. The only thing to do is fight.

okay so why is this post still up & account still existing? actual question. the account isn’t even verified like some of the other fed gov accounts either, but also it shouldn’t matter when they post “we will kill you” along with videos of them killing people.

Remember Woodward & Bernstein? Exposed a massive scandal, got a president impeached? Bernstein's kid wrote this wretched piece of shit. I don't know where you can find a better symbol of American media's decline. Just nauseating.

Once again, one very easy way for the New York Times to escape the constant criticism which it has found itself subject to these last years would be for it to stop acting in ways that completely justify all of the constant criticism which it has found itself subject to these last years.

My international students pay three times more tuition that domestic students in Canada and universities, particularly in Ontario, were using their tuition to make up for funding shortfalls. There's a lot going on in that sentence but none of it is "taking spaces from domestic students."

It's crazy that so much of Toronto being flat or shrinking is unremarked or actively hidden. You get Cllr Mike Colle, whose ward grew only 1.7pc, saying his constituents are "threatened" by constant change. Or residents in the Annex, which has fewer people, saying there's no space for more density

Trump first brought this approach to college campuses where rapists are now entitled to benefits if they’re accused of sexual assault. Things like a higher GPA and preferential treatment by professors. In my research, I heard stories of financial compensation too.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric

The persuasiveness of this argument depends entirely on people being completely ignorant of anything that has been published in the New York Times at any point in the last 20 years. Like all elites when the unwashed have the temerity to call them out, they talk to us like we’re stupid.

I'm hardly a hardcore free-market libertarian, but it does seem like the reality of market forces should be a bigger part of this debate. The basic reason you don't need to worry about a 24/7 bar/potshop/noise-making emporium setting up on a small street is basically "there's no demand for it."
