Thought I’d make a small announcement as we wrapped up the final official show of the season last night that I’ll be stepping away from weekly shows at @FlyoverFooty. It’s purely a family decision! I have three boys and their time needs grow yearly.

What a game. Talking to my son and we’re listing who we’re rooting for. I know I get upset about MLs rules and Open Cup hate, but when CCC and CWC are on I root hard for the domestic clubs. Miami is my number one right now and a lot of that is bc there are 🇺🇸 to root for!

just saw a group of masked men stuffing masked ICE agents into an unmarked car, who were saying "we're ICE we're ICE!" but the abductors shouted to the crowd "no we're ICE!" no one knew who was ICE, so no one in the crowd said anything.

As we discussed this I actually kept forgetting good players were available. The guys agreed that Becher did enough to get another shot. I wanted Ostrak but Watts earned it…Wallem had to be put in. Good feeling to have a bench, but I hate missing out on Kessler and Löwen. 🥺

Relevant: The MLS Secondary Transfer Window is scheduled to open on July 24, 2025, and close on August 21, 2025. Critch will have Reid, Wallem, Totland, Watts, Hiebert, and Cilley as likely left back options until that window at the soonest. Only Reid and Cilley are left footed, if you care.

I hate to see Horn go…great player in STL at a bad time. All the best Jannes and thank you for your service. On the bright side, there’s a roster slot opening up that could be filled with another left back…or if we find an attacker better than Wallem, he can go to left back. Opportunity?

RE: is the roster good? Big debate and I hope we find out this season. Been fun to see pundits weigh in. My main point here, is that whether the roster has been good or bad…I truly think no coach has gotten it right. Hack was the closest IMO.

Timing was on our side and we hit the ground running once the news broke. This one went fast—we’ve been saving up a lot of these thoughts for weeks or more. I thought Matt & I covered most thoughts with lots of help from the chat.

Interesting…for those going after Lutz this could be a piece of your evidence.

Boy have I been bottling emotions for a long time trying to think as clearly as possible. I think that was the final straw for me…but emotions are fresh. We’ll see what morning brings.

Open Cup is such a perfect carrot or lifeboat or both for Coach Mellberg. For CITY fans a run could spell redemption—especially for tournament truthers like me. Lastly, as I’ve said about the playoffs, Mellberg’s style melds well with knockout soccer. Truly rooting for him and the boys.

Well St. Louis…we went over and over the blame game on our @flyoverfooty.bsky.social show that dropped this morning. Round and round: Diego, Olof, Lutz. THIS IS SUCH A PIVIT MOMENT. LA retains the coach and brings in analytical reinforcements. Interesting move. And timely for STL IMO.

Edu’s healthy and fit enough to play & just played last week. If he were with the team he’d be practicing and playing. We all know what his family is dealing with. Any notion of Löwen not being at training is through that lens. He’s not just hanging out in the facility not training. #AllForCITY

An attacking lineup! We might even see a balanced attack. Happy for Zalinsky to get some minutes. They might need the attack facing a stingy Union Omaha. Hoping these guys secure some goals and get lot of minutes. A perk of the Open Cup.

We were projecting earlier in the week a lot of rotation, but between the importance of this tournament in STL, the return of some starters, the presser yesterday, and the morale boost a cup run could bring we’ve added in a lot more quality starters. Some fun players here & perhaps some young subs!

Solidarity. Not too late to invite family and friends. Offer tickets and beer if you can. :) That’s what I did.

I argue it’s OK to ignore this loss in this episode, but we also dig into the problems. While I think the best is yet to come, I think coaches in the past have made good with rosters worse than this…therapy session.

Talking to Wiese & Baker on Soccer in the Lou last night and it feels like this team keeps losing ground with injuries on trying to figure out the attack. Some progress with the emergence of Celio. Players will be coming back. Alternatively, here we see Columbus Crew fine tuning their roster.

There has never been a moment when whatever MLS rules were in place at the time were sacrosanct. "Parity" as a guiding principle is not about a level playing field, it's an excuse to limit spending in the general sense.

Not only is this what I WANT to see…but Mellberg is damn near forced into this lineup or something close to it…or play more CB’s. But if this is what we get, it’ll be fun to watch!
