I'm all for pardons and second chances. But it's a hell of a juxtaposition to pardon millionaire NFL players convicted of drug distribution while you're summarily executing impoverished fishermen making a few hundred bucks to shuttle drugs around the Caribbean.

âWhen Citizens United was decided in 2010, billionaires had spent $18 million on the 2000 election, $13M 2004 and $16M in 2008. Then came the deluge. In 2012 it was $231M, and nearly doubled again in next three election cycles âto $682M in 2016, $1.2 billion in 2020 and $2.6 billion in 2024.â Gift:

This is really an instance of a very longstanding trend where secular pundits end up unwittingly aligned with fundamentalists in treating the crudest and most extreme version of any faith as the genuine article and everything else as somehow inauthentic.

Well look at the Timesâusing its own judgment, drawing inferences from the facts, and reporting on the story with an eye on how the story would be reported if these events were occurring in a peripheral country.

In the canon of "awful SCOTUS decisions of the Trump Era," Trump v. Hawaii in 2018 should probably rank higher. Maybe not as consequential as Trump v. U.S. or Trump v. Anderson, but the Chief Justice's yawning indifference to Trump's bigotry helped set the stage for everything that's come since...

The Obamas became the face of the racial revolution in America â the physical embodiment of white supremacy's institutional demise. As such, it almost didn't matter how post-racial they tried to be: their mere presence in the White House was a psychological affront to the old order's adherents.

Today I am teaching Prigg v. Pennsylvania, which may be worse and more influential than Dred Scott. It radicalized countless normies into becoming abolitionists and provided constitutional cover for the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. I want to call out a thing about it that doesnât get much attention.

The point for SpaceX is once it's in mainstream indexes, index investors functionally are forced to buy. They cannot sell. And since Musk will control voting, they will have no rights at all. Functionally forced to supply capital.
