The Artemis II flyby was not just a super cool jaunt around the moon! It was a test flight that’s part of a larger, extremely nationalist, plan to militarize and colonize the moon for AMERICAN interests It is NOT “For All Mankind“ And everyone who makes fun of someone who asks the question:

Does this post frame the issue in the ways that I’d like? Not especially. But it wouldn’t hurt Americans to interrogate the foundational belief that Americans get to make decisions about the solar system without democratic, global input and to situate the story in context: plans for moon dominance 🧪

What’s shitty about the discourse about this post both on Threads and here is that there are genuine concerns about colonialism with respect to the moon, including for example:

Perhaps Magyar's most important promise, and the one that certainly resonates with voters: "never again a country without consequences!" The crowd chants: "To prison! To prison!" [with the corrupt officials of the outgoing government]

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

Love this shot. I think this is a thermal infrared camera, showing how the bottom of the capsule is still glowing due to its warmth after hypersonically ramming the atmosphere — compressing a gas heats it up a LOT when you're moving at superorbital speeds.

Andy Robertson is an era defining human being who transformed the ethos and soul of his team to match the spirit and identity of Liverpool the city and Liverpool the people. We will miss Mo's production a ton but we may miss Andy's personification of what it means to play for this club even more.

This is: 1. Deeply moving. 2. The first time I've ever seen a real-life astronaut be anything other than serious or happy in space. Obviously they have been (they're human), but folks on earth have only ever seen this in movies or on TV. Imagine watching your tears of grief float around you.
