Somehow I missed that Del Monte canned foods is in bankruptcy and has shut down all canning facilities. Apparently it's resulting in nearly half a million peaches being destroyed because they're a breed (clingstone) that is only good for canning and goes bad too fast to make alternate arrangements.

Someone told me lately "Bluesky is just like Twitter." I argued that was untrue on the basis that last time I had a Twitter account most times I got a new follower their bio said "single & looking for fun" & here when I get a new follower it tends to say something like "professor of rare moths".

I’m not a “reject modernity” person at all, but occasionally I look at surviving gowns from 200 years ago, the solid structure, and think “yeah, they’re not going to have any of our stuff.” Even the haute couture houses are using stuff that’s just going to shred or fly away into dust.

If every African and South Asian nation does this, the LNG stuck in Hormuz can get lost and nobody would even care. Solar panels and batteries are now cheaper to buy and install and then use for 20 years than just a single year worth of gas. And that’s if the gas is even delivered.

This is from 5 months ago. Pakistan *paid* Qatar to stop delivering gas that it already ordered, because Pakistani families installed so much cheap solar panels and batteries, that Pakistan went from 2% solar to 25% solar in under 600 days.
