I could see some sort of reasonable reallocation of ICE, shifting some tasks to the FBI etc, but no one has ever even suggested abolishing cbp. I don’t see how even abolishing ice gets rid of the issue bc I assume ppl will just move around agencies.

I want to note something about NYPD collaborating with ICE in this way. The NYPD are forbidden from assisting ICE in "civil deportation" matters. But doing "crowd control" for ICE (aka brutalizing those who want to keep their neighbors safe) is permissible. A lot of folks get confused around this.

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

I adore my fellow immigration court support volunteers. They are mostly retirees. Sometimes they flyer outside even in harsh weather. Sometimes they accompany people inside, which is always emotionally wrenching and occasionally terrifying. They show up every week and they are the best.

I cannot say enough, there are places in your community that need help and one of the most personally empowering things you can do in this disempowering era is show up and ask humbly where you can slot in and contribute.

I think one of the reasons that politicians in Buffalo are able to pretend that we don't have daily ICE operations snatching people off our streets is because the ICE agents here usually don't wear masks.
